Another painting on which there are endless variations. Begun with a wet on wet background and let the watercolor do what it will do.  The details of the misty trees and their reflections added later.  As with the other paintings is available for purchase.

FoggyMarsh#1_72dpiI have done a number of these marsh scenes, and started many more, as demos in my watercolor classes, especially with student who are not yet very experienced with watercolor.  It does take a bit of practice to get the hand of the varigated wash in the background, and then to know just when the paper is still just the right amount of wet to add the soft greys so they are the right amount of softness and don’t spread out too far.

Barn,BrevardNC_72dpiHappy New Year!  I have decided to participate in the Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days, but my challenge will be (as last time) to complete 30 already-started paintings.  I have at least that many in various stages of completion.  Mostly I start them with my watercolor students, and then never have time to finish them.  Sometimes, because I have 3 different classes in watercolor, there are 3 paintings –  one started as a demo in each class.  So here is Day 1, just completed.  It is a barn in Brevard, North Carolina.  I haven’t named it yet….. sometimes that is the biggest challenge.  So I am open to suggestions.

Today is the first day of the challenge, but also the first day of a New Year.  And that in itself brings new challenges and possibilities.   Just as each new day does.  Possibilities.  And I will try to focus on those each and every day.   And just as important, to be present in each moment.  Notice the way the sun feels on my face or the way the floor feels beneath my feet….. see the magic in every day.

I sit at my computer on this first day of the year.  Watching the sun rise.  So quiet and still.  Not even the whisper of a breeze.  I am blessed.

Happy New Year.
